Where Trump gets away with attacking protesters with water cannons and tear gas, our country recognizes abuses of our rights and freedoms and compensates us when those are taken away.

2010 . . . you know what hateful right wing Prime Minister was at the helm. Just another reminder of why we never want to see Conservatives in power again.

$16.5M settlement reached in class-action lawsuit over mass arrests during 2010 G20 summit

Compensation for those arrested will be between $5,000 and $24,700

The agreement comes after 10 years of court proceedings and negotiations between the Toronto Police Services Board and representatives for about 1,100 people who were arrested during the summit.

Under the settlement, those arrested will each be entitled to compensation between $5,000 and $24,700, depending on their experiences.

The deal also includes a public acknowledgement by police regarding the mass arrests and the conditions in which protestors where detained, as well as commitment to changing how protests are policed in the future.

Those who were wrongfully arrested will also have their police records expunged.
Thousands participated in demonstrations

Toronto hosted the G20 summit of world leaders in June 2010.

Many public demonstrations were organized to address issues like climate change, globalization and poverty. Thousands of protestors demonstrated peacefully, but some protests were accompanied by deliberate vandalism.

Police reacted by encircling large groups of hundreds of protestors in several locations in downtown Toronto with cordons of riot police, holding them for hours, and then transferring many of them to a temporary detention centre.

The lawsuit was launched in 2010 by Sherry Good as the legal representative of approximately 1,100 class members. The Toronto Police Service initially objected to the class-action proceedings in court, and the class-action status was not finalized until November 2016.

"When these events happened many Canadians could not believe they happened in Canada. The settlement appears to fairly recognize through financial compensation, acknowledgements and reforms that they shouldn't have happened and will never happen again," said Eric Gillespie, a Toronto litigation lawyer leading the case with Murray Klippenstein.

Klippenstein and Gillespie are urging anyone who was present at the June 2010 G20 riots and who might be eligible for compensation to contact them or review the G20 class-action website.

Until the conservatives kick that treasonous, bigoted jerk Ezra Levant to the curb and tell him to get lost, and until they stop pandering to the psychotic hate-spreaders of the religious right, which that repulsive jack-ass Harper did, they, the conservatives, will never be fit to govern Canada. This is what sank Randy-Andy. he was sucking up to hard line, right-wing religious bigots like David Cooke of CitizenGo, Jack Fanseca of the Christian hate group Campaign Life Coalition, "Preacher" David Lynn of Christian Positive Space, and that bigoted jerk that is controlling a young conservative in the Ontario legislature, Charles McVety. These religious parasites run around spreading their dangerous bigotry and hatred, along with their misogyny, claiming to be people of God when all they really are is a bunch of scum. That was the one thing about Scumbag-Steven Harper. He championed his so-called battle against section 13 of the human rights code, the code that stood up to hate speech. To Harper and all the other maggots of the religious right, which Harper happily represented, this greatly curtailed their right to spread hate. Using Randy-Andy, the Harper government successfully killed section 13, allowing repulsive garbage like David Cooke, David Lynn, Charles McVety, and Jack Fanseca to unleash their dangerous hate campaigns, especially against women who wanted the right to control their own bodies, and against members of the LGBTQ communities, although, conservatives are naturally Homophobic. The conservatives also need to distance themselves from such dangerous extremist groups like the yellow vest immigrant haters. Until the conservatives tell sh*t-for-brains Levant to take a hike, and stop pandering to extremist right-wing groups, and distance themselves from the bigots of the religious right, they will never be fit to govern Canada!

Kiss my ass, Mr. Levant!
